1,2,3 *SXSW top pick alert!*
1 drummer, 2 Nics and 3 guitars in our Green Screening studio this time around as the frontman's doppelganger doubles up on keyboard to complete his own band thanks to the wonders of modern technology! Lead vocals and guitar and keys are all here provided by Pittsburgh native Nic Snyder, whose frowning brow and frumpy man-cardigan contrast with cherubin dimpled cheeks and a curly mop of unruly hair. His petulant-sounding delivery adds a boyish tone to the performance as he poutily sings “Sevunn milly-unn pee-puhl” and pal Josh Sikels thumps out the simple beat on drums. People with dimples can get away with anything really.
The song Confetti pulls back from the brink of nihilism with its ‘we’re all going to die’ sentiments and fuzzy guitars through a sweet reassurance of human kinship with ‘you’re my kind, dear’. Throw in a few harmonious ‘nanahnahnaaas’ and you have yourself a rather lovely optimistic song. In a profile in The Guardian newspaper these guys were recently tipped as the next big thing, the reviewer summed-up the single Confetti, that our video is for, as “a Lennon-esque chant with a twist of Bolan boogie”. If that doesn’t blow your mind, try pondering this: there is no singular of ‘confettii’ (from the depths of our friend Locklin McKinnon’s brain).
Green Screening alumni Davey and George from Lost Boy? (Green-Screening.com music video for them coming soon!) guested with 1,2,3 for this recording, learning the song upon arrival in the studio that very morning from a laid-back Nic. It’s all very chill and very cheeky, we suggest you check out their Tumblr full of awesome curated music picks, oh and arty photos of girls bottoms too. Plus a little Joanna Newsom-lust too. Total harpy.
Having signed to Frenchkiss (home to Passion Pit, The Hold Steady, Les Savy Fav, Local Natives, The Antlers, and on and on), 1,2,3’s album made with Nicolas Vernhes (Bjork, Dirty Projectors, Deerhunter, Animal Collective, Spoon etc.) is slated for release June 2011.
They’re our kind.
